Fireside Chat – Career Leadership Event Recap
On March 30, 2016, the Association of Women in Finance hosted our most recent fireside chat from the popular AWF fireside chat event series. The sold-out event, held at the offices of RBC Royal Bank, featured a lively conversation on career leadership followed by appetizers, drinks and networking opportunities for attendees. .
Our guest speakers for the evening, both from RBC, were well suited to the topic of the day: Tim Manning, Executive Officer and Regional Vice-President, Commercial Financial Services, B.C., and Lisa Wittet, Vice President, Integrated Markets, B.C., had decades of experience shaping – and learning from – their careers. Melanie Bradley, Partner in the Securities and Capital Markets Group at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, moderated the discussion.
Tim and Lisa began by sharing their stories, telling us what they do, their career paths and how they got there, and what they learned along the way. They spoke about what career leadership means to each of them, and shared examples of leadership that had arisen in their own careers. Tim and Lisa’s stories were underpinned by themes of resilience – they each shared setbacks that they had experienced, what they did to overcome and learn from them, and why bouncing back is so important for success.
After the discussion, Tim and Lisa answered questions and mingled while our guests had the opportunity to chat and network.
Thank you to our attendees, our guest speakers, and our sponsors RBC and PwC for a successful evening and your continued support in AWF.
