The Association of Women in Finance (AWF) hosted the 19th annual PEAK Awards on May 10, 2016 at the Fairmont Waterfront hotel. An engaged crowd of more than 300 guests came to celebrate the achievements of five individuals who have made exceptional contributions to advancing women in the field of finance. The five outstanding honourees presented truly inspirational acceptance speeches that gave voice to the truth that there are many routes to success and also emphasized the importance of finding a mentor.
In addition, more than $22,000 was generously pledged for our scholarship fund. This money will be used to encourage women to enter the field of finance and to assist students who require financial support in order to reach their goals in the finance industry.
The evening was brought to a close with much applause for the entertaining and informative key note speech given by Dr. JP Pawliw-Fry on the topic of "Performing Under Pressure." Dr. JP Pawliw-Fry explained to the audience that the idea that people perform better under pressure is a myth. No matter what we may think, nobody performs better under pressure. He then shared his insights and strategies with the crowd to help them perform their best when it matters most.
Once again, we extend our sincere congratulations to our extraordinary 2016 PEAK Honourees:
- Maureen Howe (Lifetime Achievement)
- Karla McCarthy (Excellence in Private Sector)
- Carolyn Rogers (Excellence in Public Sector)
- Michelle Grant (Rising Star)
- Anna Tudela (Champion)
