Bringing commitment, passion and efficacy to the public sector, Dr. Patricia Hibbitts embodies all the qualities the PEAK Award for Excellence in the Public Sector seeks to recognize.
As Vice President Finance & Administration at SFU since 2001, Dr. Hibbitts oversees the administrative infrastructure supporting SFU’s academic, research, and community betterment mission. In this capacity, Dr. Hibbitts oversees a $500 million budget and diverse team of over 340 administrative and support staff across five divisions. Prior to joining SFU, Dr. Hibbitts held the position of VP, Business and Finance at UNBC, becoming the first woman in Western Canada to be appointed as a university VP, Finance.
Dr. Hibbitts is an advocate for integrated academic, financial and capital planning within a university. She is cited for her leadership role in advocacy for students, promoting the need to keep students at the center of post-secondary education planning.
A true academic herself, Dr. Hibbitts holds a BA from the University of Toronto, an MBA from York University and an EdD in Educational Leadership from SFU. Dr. Hibbitts is also recognized for her passionate advocacy for children with learning disabilities and her commitment to the role of sustainable development and education in First Nations communities.
Dr. Hibbitts sits on the Boards of the Canadian Association of University Business Officers, the Simon Fraser University Community Trust, the Tsawwassen First Nations Economic Development Corporation and Great Northern Way Trust.
